Here’s the scenario. You’ve taken on a new job and high up there on your To Do list is choosing a company to maintain the air conditioning system you’re now in charge of. They need to be reliable, experienced, expert at what they do and good value for money. But how do you know who’s good and who’s not? After all there is so much more to air conditioning than just a cool office.
Air conditioning maintenance
Air conditioning systems are something we think about most in summer, for obvious reasons. But in fact Spring is the perfect time to kick-start your air conditioning maintenance programme and ensure everything is working well and efficiently. Once the days really start to warm up, it’s often too late and problems which could have been avoided through planned preventative maintenance can quickly spiral out of control.
We’re taking a keen interest in the development of the Olympic Park in East London, home to next year’s Games. It’s a ground-breaking project and sees the construction and building maintenance of both the Park and Olympic Village which houses the athletes.
Areas particularly sparking our interest:
- The Energy Centre – London 2012 quite rightly has a strong focus on sustainability, and the energy centre will support it’s commitment to using renewable and energy-efficient technology. With 2.5 square kilometres of venues to heat and cool, this is a significant undertaking.
- The Velodrome – the heart of the Park, and the first to be completed, will see cyclists competing for gold next year. With 6,000 spectator seats available, it’s essential that the facilities management of this complex run smoothly.
- The Pumping Station – as part of the development, a pumping station has been built for plumbing and sanitation facilities to remove waste from the Park and Olympic Village. This is a critical part of the complex and needs to be reliable and maintained.
- The Primary Substation – this is the ‘backbone’ for the development and provides the gas, water, telecommunications, water and sewage for the whole complex. Without it, the Games simply couldn’t take place.
We understand that the role of a property manager is complex. You have demands to meet from tenants, inspection queries, security issues, budget decisions – the list is endless. DMG Delta can lessen this load by providing building maintenance and facilities management for your building. We’ll do this by devising a Planned Preventative Maintenance schedule that meets your needs.
Who do we help?
We’re serious about the level of service we provide to our customers, and the partnerships we build with our Commercial and Residential Property Managers are the cornerstone of our business. Some of these even stretch back nearly thirty years.
Nell Gwynn House is a good example of how we work for Residential Property Managers. Or take a look at the Canary Riverside case study for an example of successful facilities management for Commercial Property Managers.
DMG Delta offers complete engineering maintenance services including air conditioning, heating and boiler plant, electrical, plumbing and water treatment. Read more…
Here at DMG Delta, people make the difference. Today we spoke to Kirsty Speakman who’s training to be our Service Manager and will oversee the help desk. Kirsty joined us in 2003 and is responsible for managing Jo Turner, our service co-ordinator, and ten reactive maintenance engineers.
Kirsty, what do you enjoy about your job?
For me, it’s that I work with a great team of people for a terrific set of clients. No two days are the same and there’s always a challenge to get stuck into. There are also good career prospects and training opportunities.
What motivates you?
The ultimate motivation in my role is knowing that I’ve done a good job and that I’ve given my all. I work with a great team, who are supportive and have a good team ethic. We get on both in and out of work, and socialise regularly, which helps create a productive atmosphere at work.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I want to be established in my management role with sufficient training and qualifications behind me so I have scope to develop further in my career.
What’s your career high at DMG Delta?
I started at DMG Delta as a temporary worker and now I’ve been permanent for eight years and responsible for managing the service desk, which is a critical point of the business.
Tell us your likes
I enjoy socialising, watching films, caring for animals and a drink or two.
And your dislikes?
I can’t stand grilled tomatoes or being too hot – I’m an ideal advocate of air conditioning maintenance services.
Who do you look up to?
It’d have to be Sandra Bullock and Julia Roberts who are independent and strong women – on screen and in person.
