More than 40,000 people in the UK are living with spinal injuries. Aspire was founded in 1982 to improve rehabilitation facilities at Spinal Unit of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, London. A state-of-the-art facility opened in 1991 and a major new extension was completed in 1998. The facility offers a swimming pool, dance studio, computer training room and a wide range of rehabilitation equipment.
